"For the last year we have wanted to raise our own chickens for our family to eat. We also want to be able to confidently, and properly slaughter the chicken. I had watched many videos on the internet and had always ended up in tears, not knowing if I could do it. We found Phoebe, “The Chicken Women” online and decided we needed help. When I called her she was so friendly, understanding and as soon as I spoke with her I knew I had found the person I needed. She was amazing, so patient, and really understood how we felt about taking the life of this chicken. She spent time before we got started to get to know us, and our goals, and really made us to feel okay about what we were going to do. She walked us through every step, right down to an amazing recipe for Coq Au Vin. I did cry when I took the life of the chicken, but she helped me understand, and appreciate the chicken for its life and what it will now provide to me and my family. We now feel confident that we can raise our own meat chickens to feed our family, thanks Phoebe!".

"I'm really happy we had the opportunity to learn from an individual as caring as yourself. I really appreciate you opening yourself up to us and letting
us come to your home. For lack of a better phrase - it as a fabulous experience! I couldn't have asked for a better way for myself to let go and just do the deed".

" I, like many others in our community have been focusing on bringing my families food closer to home. I have been gardening for decades, and a few years ago started keeping hens for eggs. During that time I have connected with friends and able to source beef and pork (locally and lovingly raised) for my families yearly needs. Before long I believed I would like to raise my own meat birds, but wanting to and doing so would be a huge leap for me... I have never killed/hunted or cleaned anything nor do I come from a family that does. I had been thinking for some time of how I could learn more. In comes Phoebe! I came upon Phoebe's Advertisement in the Press Democrat and went on to check out her web page. I was thrilled to find someone with a similar mindset in the importance and care of our food source, offering lessons in person.I contacted Phoebe via the email on her Web page and we set a date for the next weekend. During the week Phoebe kept in contact, forwarding info and reassurance that if at any point during my lesson I felt uncomfortable to just let her know. I was apprehensive and her attention in that was greatly appreciated. By the day of our lesson I felt I had a new friend and was very comfortable when I arrived at her home. Phoebe has such a caring way about her and with that I was able to stay calm and absorb the knowledge she had to give. I should also mention she is funny, sometimes there's nothing better than some good laughs to lighten the mood when your feeling anxious. When driving home I was struck with surprise at how my day wound up being quite enjoyable. I spent a sunny afternoon in a garden with a lovely woman whom cares as much as I do about our land and the animals that feed us and learning a new skill!! I am very happy I found Phoebe and had the opportunity to work with her, I would definitely recommend anyone interested in furthering their chicken keeping knowledge in this way to contact her."
